What size of groups do you have at your meetings? Also you will likely have to approach potential sponsors, it takes time to get a whole lot of things donated. Also sometimes you or someone else will have to break down and buy things to get it going. If your meetings are small it will be tough to get a sponsor willing to donate. If you and a few other people donate a few items and get attendance up then invite a sponsor to come to a meeting and use it to show them people are there. Make sure that if you do have a sponsor even a tiny one that you print something up for the attendee's to take home with their name address and phone number and a voiced thanks to any sponsors during the meetings will help as well.

Having things donated so that you can have a raffle involves scratching someone back so they can return the favor so to speak. By showing a potential sponsor that you appreciate the sponsors you already have they will be more interested in doing things for your members and as you gain more things at your meetings in turn your membership and attendance will grow. But even if things do work out you have to continue pursuing it, if you get lax attendance as well as membership will fall and sponsors will go away.

BTW what group is it that you are meeting with?

You all have a great club! Very attentive audience that asked lots of smart questions. I would come back any time.

Schweet!!!!!! Nice Job Marc. Its a shame the gap was not noticable before the wall went up. But thats the problem with reno's always unforseen obstacles in our way. The way we deal with them is whether we succeed or fail.

Wires have been tied back six inches next to the first gang box on each run. I'm not going to tie down wires in the attic - there are tons of them.

Marc, I believe you should use the tank on the side. That would be better than the ladder idea; especially because of your back. I know once a month is not much, but preventive safety is best. And, the system in the picture above would be a lot easier for a large tank. Just my thoghts. ;-)

Yeah, I cleaned the neck on mine about every 2 - 3 months as well. It performed fine with a full-on neck turd, but better after being cleaned. The difference wasn't great though. Of course, my skimmer admitted to steroid use and had to be chopped up.

FWIW The wires staples need to be within six inches of the boxes to meet national codes.

as long as you stay with the bag salt, then its not too bad. and you can probably do it with a step stool.

the St. Jude tanks were 10+ ft in the air plus the height of the tanks so it was a necessary. your lucky enough to only be a few feet above your head.

I think its all about code my house is 61 years old cringe when im in the attic(upstairs is grandfathered in) but when we wired the basement we had to install gfci on each circit near water and depending on what gage wire was what amp circit breaker we could use and had to pay the city 25 bucks for piece of paper to put in the window for a week to just do that.

I have another idea in mind, but it does involve a ladder. I'm thinking about boxing out an area over the vat in the ceiling to get more clearance. Think of it as a raised ceiling between two trusses. Honestly, I only have to bring the salt up there once a month, I'm thinking. Even with only 200g of water, I'd only need to carry up around 4 to 5 bags of salt.

However, I will think about your mixing station idea. I just hate tying up more of the floor space in the fishroom. The vat is already taking up 31" x 31" or the full corner to the left of the door in the long wall. It is where I was going to put my sink.
