I nicknamed it the "orange blob" a few years ago because it never took grew into the familiar shape we are accustomed to. I'm sure I can find a very old picture of the original piece, which resembled a tiny sombrero. I'll have to see about locating that for you.

How big was that colony when you first got it?

My tank is 1/2" thick. What you're doing sound right though - following Ecotech's advice is best.

Sorry, typo. That was supposed to say "how thick is the glass pane that your vortechs are on?"

Hey Marc, how thick is the glass pane that your are on. I just put one on my tank with 3/4" glass and the instructions said to not use the adjustable spacer at all for this thickness. So basically the way I have it now is just the motor against the little rubber pad that normally fits inside the adjustable spacer. Just curious if you had to do the same thing.

If you just cleaned it with tap water in the sink, it should resume within the hour, usually.

Your tank Is awesome Melev! I took my skimmer lid off a few minutes ago and have a inch of skimate in the cup. I'm so happy now, getting all that stuff out of the tank. When I do clean it like you just did yours, will it take time to start skimming again?

Oh, I just remembered I also ordered six more refugium bulbs with their flat shipping rate for another $78. Goodness, what a week.

When I talked to the rep over the phone at LightBulbsDirect, he told me it was very popular for the aquarium trade, and how a number of stores carry them. With good reason: I've been promoting them for years!

Three for 2010, and three more for 2011. Now they just have to arrive intact. Here's hoping.

I see. I have a presentation on fishrooms, which is probably why I've never made an article about it. Good idea - thanks!
