  1. Noise

My reef tends to make noise, but not enough to be an issue. However, the past few days my skimmer has been way too loud with the sound emanating from the air tubes used to venturi air into the pumps. I ran several cups of heated RO/DI water through them, but the suction sound was annoying!

Only one of the two pumps was the source, so I removed that pump to clean the impeller, tubing and the nipple where the two connect. I was expecting salt creep to be the obstruction. ...

  2. Month 23, plus two days

The 10th of the month snuck past me, so here's the update a couple of days later.

While I was away for MACNA, essentially all went well with the reef and anemone cube. The first night, of course around 1 a.m. in Washington D.C. 3. Video: MACNA D.C. 2015

Instead of a write up with pictures, this year I opted to shoot video. It was a fun event, and I ran into a lot of friends as well as a bunch of happy hobbyists bursting with excitement. People get re-energized by the three day event, and find their passion for reefkeeping back in the forefront of their minds.

  4. Video: Kessil AP700 Preview/Review

I got to check out the newest Kessil LED last week, which will be on display at MACNA next weekend. I was impressed by the look it provided.

  5. Bus Tour - it's really fun!

For the third year in a row, our club got a chartered air-conditioned bus and spent the day visiting a few LFS (Local Fish Store) that are club sponsors. We visited five stores that day, and I ended up with more fish food and a couple of new corals. With 50+ of us shopping that day, I'd estimate that we spent about $7500 supporting the local economy - which is a great thing for those stores. And the best part, I remembered to film it.
