This happened about a year ago, and it was the same situation. And what i did was stop the CO2 tank entirely, so the tank can dissipate or absorb the Alkalinity for a few days until it's back down. Last time I brought it from 21 to 16 and kept it there about 6 weeks, then dropped it to 12 and kept it there. By avoiding a big drop, I figured the corals could adjust or adapt and work with me, which is what happened.

So this time was the same, just let it lower, then resume CO2 gas entering the reactor. I also changed the melting point to 7.5 instead of the lower number 7.1 or less. This helps level things out.

Nice job! No-one else said a thing but it was actually a really cool tattoo in person.

I'm surprised you don't have the refugium up and running on this tank yet. Might be time to get something down there to suck up those nitrates that are soon to rise!

They were on LiveAquaria's website. I thought they were cool looking, so I got some.

Those sure look a lot like tetras. Where did you find them?

Great story Marc! I had that African cleaner wrasse for a couple of weeks and then he just disappeared without a trace. I didn't see the odd behavior you describe, but did go right to cleaning everyone. He always ate well and was an active swimmer so my only guess is that he jumped out. That makes 3 fish that have disappeared and to take some of the guess work out, I got some of that clear netting to build some covers. I would like to rule out the jumpers because I feel like that is my fault and I can do something to prevent it. Keep us posted!

Wow, yeah, some of the corals were huge in 2010. You're getting back there though, slowly but surely

March 2010 will probably always be my favorite reef.

All are fantastic, but hands down my favorite is the most recent March shot. How about you?

That's a first for me. Any idea what would cause it to dump its shell?

I'd like to see your conchs. Post up a picture of them. And definitely replenish your crew. New critters arrive hungry and ready to work.

I like seeing pictures like that. They inspire me to try harder and keep learning.

I like getting my hands on stuff. If I have something new to add or something to tweak, then I am happy. If my reef was maintained by someone else and all I got to do was look at it, I would not be happy. I just enjoy messing with it. It was kind of nice to get to do it over again because I would always having something that needed to be done to look forward to. Maybe I should start a tank maintenance job... not sure it would be the same working on someone else's system though!
