  1. Return pump failure

    I don't know when I got the Dart pump that runs the 400g's return flow (from the sump), but I'm guessing 2011. Maybe it's a newer, because the serial number label doesn't match the image from back then. So maybe 2012. Last night I was working in the tank with the flow off. When I turned on the return pump, it needed a little help to get started - which has been the case for the past week.   2. Sump chatter

    Everyone has been asking me about the new sump, and what its layout will be. I'm still thinking about my options, and nothing is set in stone.

    I really like the idea of a tunnel for some reason. If I can pull that off, so be it.

    If 1" of water drains from the display tank, that equals 13g of water. Plus whatever is in the plumbing. The sump needs to be able to hold any drainage when the power goes out.

  3. 10 days shy of 5 years, I have to announce a retirement...

    My return pump has chugged along for 1,815 days in a row, running 23.5 hours a day. Every night for about 30 minutes, the return pump is turned off while I feed the tank, then restarted once they've had their feasting period.
