Questions - Need some input

I have questions that need answers.

  1. Rod's Food "problem"

Calling it a problem is really over stating what's going on, but I'm looking for opinions none the less.

As you may know if you've followed along, my little 29 gallon has gotten healthier, but I've lost several fish to jumping and am now down to 1, a Flameback Angel.

Everytime I feed the angel, he fixates on the large pieces in Rod's original mix, most of which are too large for him to eat, grabbing them and then spitting them out and then grabbing them and then spitting ...

  2. Overflow - 700 GPH, 1500 GPH or something else

I'm ready to order the overflow but wanted to get some input from some of you guys with more experience. After all I'm really liking the idea provided in one of my earlier blogs about using an MP-40 and maybe adding an MP-10 for flow over my planned use of a snapper hybrid (less electrical use and fewer holes in the tank). I've also just about talked myself into the AI Sol leds because they're more electrically efficient and if they last as long as advertised will be a significant savings in buying ...

  3. Decisions decisions or Snapper closed loop vs Koralia Evolutions w/smart waves

After doing a few "best guess" calculations, it appears the snapper hybrid would flow somewhere around 1500 - 1600 gph with the snapper impeller and the calc'd head loss. The pump actually comes with two impellers which can be changed out. My "best guess" calculations suggest, with head losses, the dart would flow around 2200 - 2400 gph. That's around 30x turnover for the tank. But with the dart impeller and at the calc'd head loss, the pump would pull around 180 watts. I'd ...

  4. In the beginning a man wanted a bigger tank (who doesn't, right)

In September 2008 I finally talked my wife into letting me set up a saltwater tank. We visited several fish stores and asked lots of questions and settled on a 29 gallon complete set up being sold on commission by a fish store near an army base for a soldier going over to the big sand box. It had almost everything we needed and even though we were told keeping the 29 gallon parameters in check would be hard, we decided to buy it. So we had a tank, stand, compact fluorescent lighting, two maxijet ...
