Measuring water's evaporation

Each day for the past week, I've been marking how much water is being used by my reef. I took a piece of blue masking tape and applied it vertically on the acrylic reservoir I made.
Each day around the same time, I drew a line, marked the day and time it was measured.
What I've discovered is that the ATO reservoir holds more than a week's worth of top off water. In eight days, I've used 21 vertical inches of water. And there is still 8.5" of water remaining.
21.25" x 14.75" x 21" = 6592.19 / 231 = 28.5g
Averaging that out, the tank evaporated 3.57g per day. I'm expecting that number to rise when the window A/C is installed in the fishroom.
