Got another toy. :)

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.
I ordered a Majano Zapper from PaulB last week. This is a device that was cleaned up from the version I posted about last January / February when a buddy of mine let me watch his DIY handiwork in Seattle take out some pest anemones. PaulB decided he could make a better mousetrap and fabricated something I was willing to hold -- after all, it is an electrical device we submerge in our saltwater system!

Before you ask, I don't know if he's going to make any more of these at the moment, but you can definitely put this on your wishlist. If Paul decides to make this a full time production, I think he's gonna sell a lot of these. It costs $75 plus $13 shipping.

Pictures:

It arrived in a skinny tube, holding two of them since a friend of mine ordered one with me.

As always, follow the instructions!

The Majano Zapper has a 25" long rod (from needle tip to where the wiring begins. The 52" long wiring leads to a momentary (dead man's) switch, and the power cord from the 12v power supply to that same switch is 65" long. In most cases, I think this is a good length to work in most tanks. Nano owners may find it to be too long to work with, but then again they may not care.

Instructions included

I'll be using this to eliminate pests as the livestock moves into the new 400g.

Pretty sweet! I wound up getting a Klein's Butterflyfish and he has devoured all of my majano. I'm sure there are some left somewhere, but I can't find any and I had a massive infestation!

Alright Marc. Glad to hear PaulB is still around and kicking. I'll have to drop by that other site and say hi to him again. Unless we can convince him to drop by here sometime.

I agree but Marc you have a new toy......YOUR TANK!!!!!! Where's the update at? I am addict and you are not supplying me my drug!!!!!!!

You guys need to realize the new tank is finally here, but the room around it has to be completed before anything can be done for the reef.

I've been trying to keep up with my customers' orders, club needs, and quite a bit of travel, but all of that is finally behind me - or nearly behind me. I get to work on the fishroom and then the tank will get some serious love. More tank entries to come, I promise.

Just messing with you! You know we will wait patiently but will bug you, like when you need to complete the woodwork trim. We know it will be amazing work. You are one of the reasons I get can not get flood insurance for my house! Now I am Waiting.......

Interesting little toy. I do remember seeing something like this before with like a florecent transformer is this a refined version of the same thing?

I understand about being busy and having to get things done. Had a working weekend away from home plus a couple days before. Also had to help a friend get started with their website project I am hosting. Rabbits chinchillas and ferrets. Its fun but takes time away from other things too.

Hope things start taking shape for you soon can't wait to see the tank going.

Btw posted from my blackberry so please excuse any bad spelling and all.

I just joined here and that is the first time I saw my Majano Zapper (now called a Majano Wand) in a picture. The device is now manufactured commercialy in the US and I have a patent pending on it.

Hi Paul, nice to see you over here on RA. Nice job finding my blog entry from last November too! I'd like to see the commercial version.
  12. Paul B's Avatar
When I joined, yesterday, I searched for my name because I didn't know where to start and that is the post I found.
The commercial version is at Majanowand.com. There is no picture of the latest model on there because they just came out last week. Some of it is injection molded.
after I built 100 of them I got tired of building them myself so I got a manufacturer in the US, not an easy task.
But thank you for the greeting here.
I am going to browse around and confuse people with UG filter talk

I'll have to check out that site when they have some images to share. Any idea when this patent goes live? Since there are other variations out there already.
  14. Paul B's Avatar
I am lost on this site which is why I just found this post.
The patent takes about 1`8 months so it should post in 6 months or so.
It has been selling better than I expected so far and the latest revision is really nice looking and works very well.
The device is now black and this is a picture of the business end which is now injection moulded.

Melev, Thanks, have you tried the thing yet?

I used the one I purchased from you, and have it out on loan right now. It's easy to use in my reef tank, but not in a shallow frag tank or when corals are near the surface. Definitely fun to use and makes me feel good when I'm cooking aiptasias.
  18. Paul B's Avatar
I know about the issues of a shallow tank and I used to make a shorter model for that purpose. We spoke to the factory about that and hope to soon offer a shorter model.

It isn't that the probe's handle was too long, it was impossible to zap frags that had aiptasia if they are too close to the surface of the water.

I have a different kind that allows me to hook the ground in the tank and use the probe to zap the pests. It's pretty handy in the frag tank.

Melev I know of the one you have.
