  1. 42 Gallon Hex build

I mentioned the leak detect float switches in my last blog. So I figured I would post so information on them here. In the first photo is one bracket assembles and the parts for the second bracket. The second photo has the marks used to drill the hole for the float switch on the small part and the holes for the mounting screws on the long part. For this I used a combination square. I admusted it to near center to make the marks. This got me 2 parallel line. I just drilled the holes in the center ...

New video uploading now to Youtube. This week's topic is about skimmers, and this is going into my system soon. It's the largest NYOS Quantum skimmer, which is brand new to the market. I saw it at MACNA, and they asked me to give it a review so I'll be running it for a couple of months in my system.

  3. Top down images from tonight

I spotted something interesting, so I grabbed a Top Down Photo box and my Nikon and get a few nice images tonight. This first image is why I wanted to take a picture. These frags are growing and swirling together. There are three montiporas co-mingling at the moment.

This is one of the Montipora that lost all its color 13 months ago that I discussed in the Prodibio presentation I recently gave at MACNA. That entire presentation is on Youtube ...

  4. 42 Gallon Hex build

I ran a leak simulation this weekend. I actually ran my Drinking water RO output to the tank and let it run down the outside of the tank to simulate an overfill, splash down the side or a leak at the seam of the tank. I let it run until the leak detection float switch was tripped. I only had a little puddle on the bottom outer frame at one of the side doors and a trickle in the front electronics compartmant where the conduit enters. A single drop ran down the back panel of the compartment. I have ...

  5. I need a new frag tank

I've been talking about building myself a new frag tank system for about nine months or more. I'm just about to commence that project in the coming weeks. The corals that are in the tank right now are demanding more space, and it's pretty awesome to see. The tank has become dominated by a few species, and they are literally growing up the walls and out of the tank. It's becoming a "frag tank" in the singular sense, instead of a tank filled with dozens of frags.

    Here's a bird's eye ...
