Do It Yourself projects

  1. That ominous word: Woodwork

For some reason, no matter what tank I set up, people invariably ask me "where is the woodwork" or "when are you going to do the woodwork" or any other compilation of such words... it's almost a running joke going way way back to 2005.

Woodwork is nice, and hides all the equipment. The bright lights are shuttered behind panels or doors, and the finished look is quite appealing. That being said, it never has been a pressing issue to me. Perhaps my reasonings are merely excuses but ...

  2. Hiding the waterline

The newer version of the Marineland 400g came with a lowered water line than previously. The black plastic trim didn't hide it this time, and my preference is to keep that invisible. A few months ago, in anticipation of this situation, I ordered some flat black vinyl strips to apply to the tank once it was setup and running.

I didn't want to ruin the vinyl during the process of adding sand, rock and livestock, but now that everything is in the tank, it was high time to get it done. ...

I thought it looked fun, and decided I could ...

  4. Stand ReMod/Control Board plus other added Upgrades

So I finally decided to get off my butt and get some things done. I had, for the longest time, wanted to do several things that I just never got to:

    1) Make my tank's info (Temp at the time) view-able WiFi and Cellular networks.

    2) I wanted to have all my equipment (Not just the lights and temp stuff) controllable.

    3) I was sick of my "Drawer" control board as the toll of pulling the drawer and dragging wires whenever I did it ...

  5. More Rock Structures with some yapping by yours truly

So as some of you know I make "Rock Structures", or however you name them (I've been corrected any number of times!). This is something I like to do, and it keeps me deeper in the hobby without burning me out. I wish I could say I am some type of savant in designing Rock Structures, but this would not be true. It takes me quite a bit of time to create these things to the point I think they look pretty decent. What do I mean by this? Well, believe it or not, I try to make it look as natural ...
