I've been impulsive and bad lately.

For some reason, I can't seem to get enough fish for my tank, but I'm putting my foot down and stopping the madness.

Two weeks ago, I added the 30 Chromis plus the two little clowns you saw in my frag tank. Then last Friday I received 19 fish from ORA that I acclimated directly into my tank since I had to fly out to SoCal for Reefapalooza. I couldn't expect my tank sitter to care for them in a small cube holding 14g of water with no active filtration.

Then yesterday I got home around noon with not one batch of fish but two. I brought home a few more additions for my reef, but because of issues with American Airlines I ended up having to bring home about 12 more fish for a friend, and have to hold them in my system until Sunday.

Adding batches of fish at once has worked well because I'm not seeing hostility like I would if they were added one by one, but I'm also not set up to hold so many in quarantine. Basically I've been giving good advice that I've not been following. Because of that, I've already had two or three clownfish die from Brooknella, with another exhibiting symptoms currently, but she's too mean to die. The first one to die was sweet and that saddened me, but the other was a biter and I honestly didn't skip a beat when I saw him in the acans. A third one has been MIA for the last 5 days.

If I wasn't traveling so much this time of year and had I planned ahead instead of being so impulsive I could have set up a 55g with all the gear to observe these fish properly for a few weeks and avoided the above deaths.

My reef looks really busy and I love that. I know the filtration is in place to deal with the bioload, plus the ability to do larger water changes. Still, I've got to recommend you don't copy what I just did recently since it is risky behavior.

On the bright side, you are honest with yourself and recognize the mistakes. I think we all tend to cut corners in our hobby, especially when life gets very busy... making it difficult to spend the proper amount of time caring for our animals.

Here I was trying to figure out what fish I wanted to add to the system. I think I still need more poopers for my corals.

I just took two pictures, but it doesn't look busy enough. I'll try again tonight just before feeding the reef.

For some reason the pictures don't really make it look all that busy to me. I found two tiny fish in both the external overflow and the return section. I'd purchased three of them, but haven't seen even one until those were discovered. I'll have to get them back in the reef.

The fish are all getting used to each other. Maybe in a week or so, they will be more comfortable and visible. I only added the latest batch on Tuesday afternoon.

It looks busy to me. One just has to imagine the fish swimming and how big the tank is. How many yellow tangs did you add?
