Day 60 - Video

Rating: 2 votes, 4.50 average.
April 6th was the 60th day since my reef was set up, so last night I shot some video, assembled it on in iMovie on my iMac, and here's the result.

I shot it with my D90, but it seems a little soft. Over time, I'll probably need to get a better HD camera to share some crisper vids. I hope you enjoy it.

Such a geek! Couldn't the "softness" be from compression? Seems to me the D90 HD should be as good as any other "HD".

i just ordered a GoPro HD, its water proof to 60 meters. I would think that your cam would be better, but it might be pretty cool to be able to take vids from inside the tank

here is the one i ordered

60 meters! That's great for that price. You could use it for SCUBA as well. I'd like to see some slow video though - the one I watched was a sampling during dirt bike riding, when everything doesn't have to be crisp since you are moving at 40+ MPH. Let's see what you can do with your camera from outside of the tank to get a feel for how good it is.

I have the HD Flip as well, but don't use it much.

Looks really nice =) Can't wait to see it mature!
Been a fan of your reefing/acrylic works for about 6 years or so now, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Looks great, how did you get youtube to let you keep the music? Every time I load a video with music it says I can't use it.

Well, they've not said anything yet. I need some music that is roughly 6.5 minutes long and that was handy.

Wow Marc, gorgeous tank. The tangs make it look small and you already have too many corals....maybe you should have went to 800 gallons.

They won't say anything after its posted, they usually catch it during uploads.

During the movie, i loved the caption, but then all of a sudden, i felt like i was in StarWars.... and was waiting on Spock to pull out a superimposed Light Sabor....

but it was sweet, and i like how your fish like to swim into the penductors.
(i like the placement of the MP40. it probably helps with any movement under the returns.

I wonder if any of you will be able to guess the music? You have the right composer.

Jessy told me that I should have compressed the movie locally, then uploaded it. I shared it directly to YouTube, so it's a little soft looking. That being said, I don't think I'll upload a different version since I doubt it would make a big difference. I'll just try to improve my efforts with future videos.

    Wasn't that ET music?

    Bingo. That's correct.

The video of my tank that I posted a while back was shot with my Drift HD170 in 720 resolution. My little laptop can't handle processing full 1080HD But it will give you a comparison, I compressed it locally with Win Movie Maker.

Turns out two things went wrong on this last video. I used the wrong lens on my camera, and shared it straight to YouTube instead of processing it locally. Both have an affect on quality.

Another friend of mine told me he's using his Flip HD to shoot some videos I like, so I'm going to have to bust that out and see if I can get some better results.
