Hanging a Light fixture

Rate this Entry
I have an outer orbit fixture that I want to hang from the wall or ceiling. My ultimate dream would be a retractable cable hanging mount of some type so that I could raise the fixture when I need to get into the tank. The tank is thirty inches deep so when I need to get near the bottom I have to almost lay across the top of the tank to reach. Anyone seen a setup or know where I could get something like this? I remember in my fathers house we used to have a dining room light that could be raised and lowered because of a pulley type thing in the middle of the cable holding the light.

How heavy is the light fixture? There are some gizmos called "yo-yos" that some use to elevate and lower relatively light fixtures.

When I get home from work I will look it up or weigh it. I is a outer orbit t5/mh setup. Yo-Yos sounds like it might be what I am looking for just by the name.

YO YO's you say. I see they can hold pretty good amount of weight. I wonder what the highest they hold is would like to install a floating canopy over my tank.

You can see the yo-yos in this article: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2009-04/diy/index.php

Does anyone have the weight limits on the sunlifts? We've been tossing back and forth lighting mounting ideas, and are unsure the sunlifts can hold the weight of our homemade canopy.....
