If money isn't the object....

Look what you can do. I'm jealous and amazed at the same time. Here's a news article that talks about tanks that cost $100,000 or more.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/19/ga...ewanted=1&_r=1 The article is three pages long, in case you didn't notice.

Here's the slide show: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/201...slideshow.html

That one that is showcased somewhat in the video on the article page is slick. You can't see the gear, and it is truly floating on air.

makes me a wee bit mad that a designer site took the topic and not a reefer site. I hope the fish store has the knowledge.

Yes, that would make a great article if you knew how to find these rich people with their stunning tanks.

I wish they had been more in depth about the tanks.

Marc- your tank was much more beautiful than any of those and didn't cost $200,000 did it?

I agree, with Reefski, not only Marc's but there are others as well that are way more impressive. Those people who are featured in the article could care less about the fish, they just want to wow their friends.

No doubt. Most didn't care about the livestock, it was all about living decorations. My tank was very pretty (man do I miss it after today's efforts!), and I can think of three others I love. One is gone (Steve Weast); I don't know what the status is of Joseph Weatherson's 240g; and I loved that one in Boston that is in the planted Atrium owned by Reefkeeper2. I'm sure there are dozens more.

No Carl, no way I spent that much. Well, it's been 6 years... $33,333 per year, or $2,778 per month.... No, thank god. I think I probably spent $21,600 from the day it was running, which is $300 per month. That may be high or low, I don't know, but it feels about right. Bulbs, food, salt, new livestock, products to fix water quality, new ballasts, new pendants, new pumps, more sand, electricity ($100 a month average) - $300 sounds pretty darn close.

I got my hands wet a lot, and learned tons as I worked on it. If these people paying $100,000 to $200,000 for their systems know they could have had one like mine for about $30,000 I bet they would have passed.
