hey how's it going! I saw that your avatar is an Acanthastrea Lordhowensis which is one of my first two Acanthastrea that I purchased 2 days Ago! how long have you had yours? and do you use any special husbandry techniques i.e (feeding, placement in tank, hardiness, specific calcium/alkalinity levels, and growth rate?) I love acans so I am hoping for some good info on them from a real hobbyist!

    Thanks,
    Blake

A few pictures to share

Hey everyone,

While I was up at the NHL Winter Classic this past weekend I of course managed to pop into a LFS in the Pittsburgh area. The store was called AquaWorld and was a very large store with tons of exotic fish and beautiful coral.

I picked up a few frags:

Purple Montipora? Anyone have the specific latin name ID for this one? Its a green base with purple rims and green polyps, almost like a pokerstar but it looks like a plating variety. Also this

DIY - Carbon Filtering Skimmer Lid LOTS OF PICS

by Myhahockeykid on 01-05-2011 at 10:20 PM
Hello everyone, hope you've all had a happy new year !

I as I'm sure many others do have my tank setup in my bedroom, and sometimes the smell of the rotting goo in the protein skimmer collection cup creates quite a funk that has been getting quite noticeable in my room

This clearly needed fixing, and after a bit of research I happened upon a few prebuilt skimmer lids with carbon chambers to filter the air and absorb the smell from the skimmate. But I couldn't

Some questions from when the site was down....

by Myhahockeykid on 12-06-2010 at 07:45 PM
So while the site was down for maintenance I received my new Warner Marine ecoBAK pellets and some Brightwell MB7,

I dosed the MB7 at the "new tank/high nutrient level" dose for about a week, then I added 250ml of biopellets to my system, my GFO was taken offline when the pellets were added. For reference, my tank is approximately 3.5 months old and is a 55g with a 10g sump and 70lbs of live rock. My skimmer is the 2010 Reef Octopus NWB-150, rated for 150g. The current bioload

Biopellets....whats the real deal?

by Myhahockeykid on 11-23-2010 at 08:37 PM
Ok so everyone in the reefing world knows that black friday = new reefing equipment

Anyway...I'm thinking of buying a biopellet reactor, or at least the kit to convert my BRS GFO reactor to a biopellet reactor, but I am still a bit lost in all of the info regarding biopellets. Hopefully you guys (and girls) can help me answer some questions regarding biopellets.

#1: What is the best brand of biopellets (money not being an issue) and why?

#2: What is
