I can't bear to see it.I have followed you and tank scince the beginning on rc.one of your last pics is the "desktop" on my crackberry.I'm not ready. This has really messed with my head.I can't grasp the idea that it's gone! I think you must have the most intestinal fortitude of anyone in the hobby. All the best!

Might at least be worth a call if you haven't ordered already. They may be able to expedite it for you. Either way I am sure you will have fun building the new setup. That is my favorite part of this hobby!

Hey Marc! Really sorry to hear about your tank! I am not sure if you have ordered a new one yet or not, but John at Kingfish told me yesterday that he would be happy to help you out with an AGE tank. It might be worth a call. Let me know if you need his number. Hopefully you will be back on your feet again soon. I can't imagine the stress and heartache.

Hey Marc, I am currently planning on buidling a sump out of a 10gal tank for my 45gal corner tank. The 10 gal just barely fits now that I cut the stand slightly. I was planning on using your 29 gal sump design. Any advice or changes to the design would be great.

Hey Marc, what happened to the article you wrote about using lye to remove majano? The link just goes to a blank page.

Lol... Sorry, I had the link to it and forgot to put it. My wife and I believes we are going with T5 HO light strip that goes on top of tank with brackets. While researching I've found that the T5 HO's are better for the corals than a VHO system. What do you think? I was going to put them on this Friday. I'm not putting anything in tank till this coming weekend. I put the sand in already though, that's it though. I'm also going to add another 20 pounds of sand before the weekend. I love the setup! The water is so clear it looks like no water is in the tank...awesome. I took readings and they are better than the readings of my old tank. When the lights are on I will post all the pics. ;-)

Hey Marc, can I use this ballast to run 2 of my bulbs? I have a total of 4 bulbs but have 2 ballast which runs 2 bulbs. So all I need is ballast for 2 and I think this will work. I would néed to hook up power cord though, that's simple right?

No, like a lot of us have a live to lead, and sadly that some times means things have to go on the back burner for a while. But if you don't ask you don't get.

Late night photography in Tampa, Florida

by melev on 09-08-2010 at 09:28 PM
Jessy takes great late night pictures, and I asked her to show me some of her secrets. We walked down to the beach and set up our cameras on tripods, and then commenced shooting. For the stars, 1000 ISO for 8 seconds was just about right for my D90. For the buildings, it was 85 seconds to get an interesting profile with a starburst effect from some lights.

Are you an addict?

by melev on 08-30-2010 at 08:20 PM
If you have an iPhone, show off your addiction. Jessy created a very nice one tonight for my background. The easiest way to get it on the phone is to email it to the account linked to your phone, then save it to Camera Roll. Find the image, click on the arrow button (as if you wanted to email it to someone) and Set As Wallpaper.

We'll be sure to make more backgrounds that are reef related in the future. There's really no limit to what

The stand is here.

by melev on 08-29-2010 at 11:31 PM
I've been so busy I didn't even get a chance to blog about my new stand. However, now that I'm in Florida I have some quiet moments until MACNA begins, so here are some images I took with my iPhone 4.

The stand is 85.5" long, 36" wide and 38" tall. It is made of 2" tubular steel, welded and powder-coated. The steel is very thick, and the stand immensely heavy. When the welder dropped it off, it was too heavy for the two of us to carry, so I called for a third person to assist.

MACNA iPhone App is available.

by melev on 08-27-2010 at 02:47 PM
In record time, an app was created for all you iPhone users attending MACNA this year. You'll have the speaker's bios & talks available at your fingertips the entire conference. Find your favorite vendors in the exhibits hall, and meet up with friends more easily.

The App is available from iTunes or you can get it directly from the App Store on your phone. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macna...389096301?mt=8

The sump is out

by melev on 08-20-2010 at 02:34 PM
It took three of us 5 hours yesterday to pull out the sump and get it set up in the livingroom. It's a horrendous science experiment now, eating up tons of space and looking truly insane. Amazingly, all was accomplished without a single run to Home Depot.

Full Tank Shot for August!
