Lol! Is she a bit racy? I finally got the courage to post about it. It's a bit overwhelming when I see all these high end builds. I can only dream about all those fancy gadgets...

Hey Melev, I read u're article on keeping sps corals and found it very helpful, I have a couple of questions for you. Is there any easier acro's that u would recommend? I'm looking for something that would prefer a placement at top of my tank. I've never experimented w/ them, I do have some green and pink birdsnest and a pink cup coral that seem to do well. I have a taller more narrow 46gal tank w/ 6 T-5HO bulbs, reef octopus skimmer but no sump. My current stand doesn't have room for one unfortunately. I usually do a water change every 10 days approximately 5 gallons.

Two questions: What is the cyano treatment you recommend? Also can I get away with just one vortech in my 6 ft long 135?

    Hi Marc,

I am putting together a 120 gallon reef tank and find that I am copying or "adapting" a lot of what you have done with your new 400 display tank. I hope you don't mind.

Right on! Thanks! Yeah, all seems to be well! Yaaayyy! I love diy's! Thanks a ton! I promise pics this weekend of the sump, her tank, and mine as well as full backrounds on all.

I actually have a 1" bulk head. But tonight I got crazy, and cranked the return way up. It blew micro bubble for a few minutes cause it drained its side of the sump, but then, BAM! Things equaled out for the most part, and I found a new happy medium between 3/4 and 7/8 capacity. So, your overflow could handle a lot more than I thought. This weekend I made it a goal to get some good pics of both tanks and the sump and do some good posts. I already went through tonight with the scraper and got everything photo ready. Thanks again, I can't tell you how hepful you, and everybody is on this site. Its so great to have so much diverse, hands on experience because I wanna do everything right!

Day 1247: Three years, 5 months

by melev on 04-10-2017 at 02:23 AM
If you follow my youtube channel, you've probably heard how I have to get my arms wet and really cull the 400g reef because the growth at the top is shadowing everything beneath, and those things beneath have little chance of living. I hate to have to rip out these big colonies, but there's no choice. Here are a bunch of pictures of the tank today. I've also included some images of the Anemone Cube.

Biggest thing to happen recently was an alkalinity dip. When I see some coral turn

Not what I would do

Had a surprise guest tonight. I was working on something and he and his wife showed up at my door to visit. My tanks were all less than stellar because I haven't cleaned the glass lately, and it occurred to him that he could try using his iPhone 7 Plus to take some underwater pictures. My frag tank is low enough for an easy test. So here are three he shared.

I bought myself this bandsaw over two years ago at the Denver MACNA. It was basically a gift to myself, but I never opened the box until two weeks ago when I started fragging some corals at last. It's pretty impressive, and hence I had to make a video about it.

Video: BTS at the Birch Aquarium

I was way too busy last week, so that video is a few days late. But I had a pretty decent excuse...

Here's the Behind The Scenes footage from the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, California.
