Last update for a while

by Zmckenzie on 01-13-2011 at 10:48 AM
I just have a small update that I forgot to post on reefaddicts. The project is on hold for now until my wife and I decide if we are going to move again. I found out on New Year’s Eve that I am going to be a father so the tank is taking the backseat for now.

I received my chiller which I got a steal on. I haven’t had a chance to try it out but hopefully soon. When I got it the display was not where it was suppose to be but I don’t think anything was damaged. It just sits in the

I picked up the sump and pump for my 120

by Zmckenzie on 11-30-2010 at 09:50 AM
I picked up the 40 gallon tank which will be my sump and the coralife pump for my return. I was surprised how big the pump was. It will be tough getting the true union valve to fit. I think I will have to have the hole near the front side, use a elbow and then install the 1.5 true union. It might be easier just to use 1 inch seeing that is what the input to the pump is. I will have to make a decision once the time comes. I debated about buying all of the fittings today(11/29) from bulkreefsupply

The plan for Plumbing a 120 with two 20's

by Zmckenzie on 11-29-2010 at 04:40 PM
I have been thinking about the plumbing for a while and decide to use sketchup to get it down on paper. My goal is to have the setup to be as clean as possible. After seen glassreef build I wanted to do a clean build but under the stand(s). After much reading I plan on using the herbie overflow system. The two 1 inch holes will be used as the main drain and the two ¾ inch holes will be the emergency. The Main drain will be tied together into 1.5 inch pvc and a gate valve will be used to control

My 120 gallon DIY Stand base

by Zmckenzie on 11-29-2010 at 04:15 PM
I am building my stand so that it has three sections (the 120 and two 20 gallon stands). This is my first wood working project. I have to say it is fun. The 120 gallon stand was easy to get squared but the two 20 gallon stands didn’t want to cooperate. I used RocketEngineer DIY Stand Template and Calculator on reefcentral to build the stand base.

My 120 Desgin using sketch up

by Zmckenzie on 11-29-2010 at 03:49 PM
I started a build thread on reefcentral but decided to start posting what I have done on reefaddicts as well. Pictured bellow is the design. I used google’s free program sketchup to mock up what is going on in my head. The plan is two have a 120 display with a 20 gallon fuge on each side. The fuges will more be a planted aquarium and I plan on adding red mangroves as well.
