    its an Acanthastrea Lordhowensis, but it's closed up in the pic, if you want I can show you a picture of what the coral is like now (5 months later). Absolutely wonderful LPS coral that loves to be target fed.

film on waters surface

Our tank seems to have developed a slight film on the waters surface.All thr waters psrameters are good but the film doesn't
Seem to go into the overflows. Any ideas?

high ph

For the longest time my ph has been impossible to keeep up at 8.2 and we had to add buffer every day. we changed buffers and now the ph seems to be 8.6 or higher and doesnt seem to want to come down...
What should we use to lower the ph slightly???

Protein skimmer problems

I just cleaned out my circ pump intake, and changed the filter socks, emptied my skimmer basket (rinsed the gunk out as usual and the skimmer started overflowing almost immediately, and now I cant get it to go slow enough not to overflow unless I lift the skimmer up by an inch. Any ideas what is happening? all parameters seem good except the nightrate seems a little high at 20-40 ppm. the skimmer seems to have been working properly for months. cleaning the intake on the circ pump really increased

High nitrates???

I just figured out that my nitrate test kit was not reading right and got a new test kit and it says my nitrate levels are 20-40 ppm. I am going to do a water change right away but I qam wondering if there are any other metods for reducing nitrate. Also is this level of nitrate too high??? my gha is almost gone but there appears to be more brown algae. All the other readings seem good . Thanks Kitch40
