Biography:
Have Always been interested in the hobby, but was always hesitant. Started my first freshwater tank at 10, but always wanted a saltwater tank. It was 55 gallons and undergravel filters were state of the art. Now I have two "empty" tanks, a 400 gallon and a 500 gallon. Not sure of which one I want to go with. "Bigger is Better" from what I've heard. I was planning on a reef tank and a FOWLER tank. The biggest issue I am having is lack of space. Go figure, huh!!!! I have always been a "go big or go home" kind of a guy. Anyways, slowly buying the necessary equipment (one piece at a time) until I get ready. Have been reading lots and truely appreciate all the thread entries I have read.

Humidity

by lane1822 on 07-15-2013 at 01:38 PM
How much humidity will a 500 gallon display tank and a 200 gallon sump generate? Average air temperature is 68-72 degrees the room is approx. 1200 square feet. Will a dehumidifier (700 pint) be enough to control the moisture? If so, how often does it need to operate in a 24 period to do the job? I would hate to have it running all the time.

Septic Tank

by lane1822 on 07-08-2013 at 01:05 PM
I am getting ready to setup a 500 gallon tank. I am on a septic system (concrete I believe) and am wondering if it is safe to do water changes into the septic system? What would it do to my drain field? Does anyone have any experience on this one please. I have spoken to several septic people. They tell me that it should be ok because people use salt to soften hard water. I think the salt mixture is a bit more concentrated in a fish tank than a water softer system, but I could be mistaken.
