Google Sketchup of the Sump

by Sam11909 on 08-09-2011 at 07:34 PM
In the planning stages of building a sump for my three nano's so I made a quick sketchup. The dimension are 55"x9"x14" with the total volume around 28g. The strange dimensions are due to the stand footprint restricting the width. An algae scrubber will be implemented at the far right of the sump and a carbon reactor will be hidden on the other side of the wall behind the ATS. This design will bring my overall system volume to around 65g. Let me know if you have any questions

The Stair-stepping Nano Stand

by Sam11909 on 08-07-2011 at 02:31 PM
Finally making some progress on the nanos. I finished the stand and have all 3 of the display tanks, but I'm still undecided on the sump. Hopefully I can custom make a 55x9x14 inch 4 section sump, but I haven't ever worked with acrylic before. Maybe I'll get a estimate on a Melev's Reef sump. The stand is made with 2x4's, plywood, and over 80 wood screws. Surprisingly it is very level on all three sections. The holes in the stand are for plumbing.

Tank Upgrade Plans

by Sam11909 on 06-05-2011 at 09:17 PM
Or should I say downgrade? My current total volume is around 85g and I will be "upgrading" to a total of around 60g. Many things have lead up to this, but the decision was finally made when my tank crashed while on vacation a few weeks ago. sometime within that week the electricity turned off (normal occurence here) and when the power came back on my return pump didn't. To add to the problem, the fuge light was submersed (because of rising sump level) and shorted out the ATO. I don't know

LED's and Acro Growth

by Sam11909 on 01-22-2011 at 08:16 PM
So it's been 2 months since I put a red tabling acro and a unknown blue/white acro in my DIY LED 7.5g cube. I haven't been dosing anything, just water changes at the moment, so the growth rates might have been better with better water quality. Here are the results I've had so far.

Here's my 7.5g Do!Aqua cube.

I got all my acros except for the birdsnest from the Gulfarium Aquafarm for $10 a piece during their black Friday sale.
