new sump location

by mr. fix it on 09-29-2012 at 11:58 AM
Good morning all; I was looking for some input for my new tank setup. I have a dirt floor basement which I'm thinking about putting my sump at, it would be on a stand directly under my tank. It's a 60 gallon 3 compartment sump, so I would have plenty of room for my skimmer, refugium, heaters, and all. It would give me about 10-12 ft of head pressure to overcome, but there are plenty of pumps out there to use. The temp stays pretty constant year around. It would be a little more incovenent, but a

all glass overflow

by mr. fix it on 09-04-2011 at 10:06 AM
Hi all, I'm in the process of building a new aquarium set up, and I was wondering if anybody has every removed the ugly black overflows on the all glass aquarium magna overflow. They are just siliconed in place, and I would still have the Durso overflow in place. I just thought the tank would look much cleaner without them. Anybody have any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

by mr. fix it on 12-16-2010 at 10:23 AM
i was wondering what the current thoughts were regarding the use of a uv sterlizer, i had read an article that highly recommended their use but was advised at my llfs not to use one. also i had heard to run the water flow at a slower rate to give more contact time. thanks for your input.

hi all, glad to see were back in business, thank you marc and team. i have couple of questions regarding mh light. i'm slowly in the process of setting up a new tank, it's an all glass 180 gallon with built in overflows. while at my lfs we were talking about some of the things i have yet to buy. my lighting was brought up that i should go to 250 watt mh lights, as i had planned to use my coralife hood with 3-150 watt mh lights. i want to start collecting corals in the future, right now all i have

reducing Ph

by mr. fix it on 10-04-2010 at 10:17 AM
does anyone have some suggestions for reducing my Ph, it's 8.9-9.1 comming from my tap water. it's already killed all of my anemones. would a calcium reactor help to keep it down. i don't want to have to keep dumping chemical in the water if i don't have to, but i'm stumped at what to do. obviously more water changes don't help. thanks
