  1. LED Lighting

My tank a 240, has 4 250watt 20K MH Lights and 4 T-5 54Watt actinic lights. I am not really happy with the light from the actinics. I was thinking about putting in some LED's but I have my lights about 12 inches off the water. I like it this way it gives me lots of room. Will LED lighs work this high off the water?

I have a eshopps PSK-300 protien skimmer. it does not seem to put out the skimmage that I have seen a lot of you folks talk about. I originally thought it would be great because it has two pumps. if one when out it would still work till I got a replacement. However I discovered it takes both to work properly. here is a picture of it.
any advise on what skimmer I should ...

  4. Chemistry advise

Hi everyone, I am looking for advise on how to keep my new 240 gallon reef balanced. my carbonate alkalinity seems to need constant adjusting. adjusting with additives is getting expensive. Any better suggestions?
Also what is the best option for accurate water chemistry readings? some of the test kits are really difficult to read the results. (what shade of pink is that?)

    Thanks so much,
    -Steven
