Anyone have any MFGs to definitely stay away from? I know alot of people hate on glasscages, but I have had a Perfecto 150 on order for the last two weeks and both times it came in from delivery some part of it was broken. The store assures me it is the distributor and he is switching distributors this time, but I am getting worried that maybe the Perfecto tank just sucks.

Be sure to measure your current tank before you make any decision so you know it will fit. Planet Aquariums is run by the former master tank builder at Oceanic.

I don't have a controller, that is on the list of upgrades this year.

Do you have a controller, like an Apex or Reefkeeper? Those often have moonlighting modules you can add.

this was prebuilt but I would say get your parts together and measure everything assembled before you even start on your hood, leave as much space available as possible. Also T5 lights can get a bit warm (not as hot as halides mind you) so do whatever you can to get as much airflow going installing fans if possible. That will help extend the life of your equipment substantially.

thanks cyano, is this a prebuilt hood or a diy setup? I just want to make sure since mine will be a diy setup.

luckily i still have my T5 setup to measure the fixture is 48 1/4" long and the hood was 49 1/2" long using the inside measurement. I hope this helps

I had a peppermint shrimp that ate hydroids, but no guarantee all of them do.

I started 2 years ago cheap and have slowly upgraded almost ever piece of equipment that I have/had. I can tell you cheap isn't bad but it also isn't all that good. If you are just wanting something to get your tank up and running, cycling, and want to throw some cheap beginner corals in there though that wouldn't be a bad start.

I'm currently saving for an MP40/MP10 combo for my 75. I think it's well worth the wait to refrain from getting my tank set up until I have the equipment I desire. So I guess I'm with Midnight.

I had a 75 gallon tank and had 2 koralias Evo 1400's and one Koralia 2. Took awhile to face them where they didn't have too many dead spots. I would at least go with 2 Evo 1400s. They are about 60 bucks. Think about getting the Vortechs in the future though.

Better to save for them them buy something now that will need replaced anyway. I started the reefing part of this hobby by being cheap, all it got for me was two skimmers that aren't half as good as the one I have now and four koralias that have failed after a year.

$900 is not in my budget although I would love to have some Vortechs....... Maybe someday

yeah id go with the mp40s or 2 mp10s or you could get by with a single mp40 and a mp10

Ideally? Probably a pair of Vortec MP40's. However, if you don't have $900 to spend I'd go with a pair of the 800gph Koralias.

sorry for the spelling, I am running at mag5 return pump. I have live rock and and few soft corals at this time, the tank will remain a softie tank.

The featherduster is harmless, but those little hydroids need to go. Rip them off with tweezers.

Thanks for the info, I have tried taking better pictures and that is the best one that I have taken. I dont have the best digital camera. So to protect the colony I need to remove the feather dusters before they damage any more of it. It looks like they are spreading, it use to be a solid GSP colony and I first noticed the spots about a month ago.

The smaller ones look like hydroids to me. I would scrape them away.

from the way the picture was taken it almost looks like a common feather duster... Can you post a few more pics at different angles then I will be able to tell you
