Yes, it's quite the challenge. Since I have about 20 lbs of resin, it seems like it might be worth doing, but again I have to want to do it. Here's the article on how to do so: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-09/nftt/index.php

I did some research on the process of recharging the DI resin. RC had a lot of info and so did a couple other sources. It sure seems like a lot of work and time to recharge the resin. If you do the math, equating the time and tools used, it seems more cost effective to buy new DI resin. This of course is dependent on several variables. For instance the hourly pay rate of each individual, their cost of new DI resin, plus taking in to account how much used resin they have accumulated to perform the recharge process.

That would be a sweet project guys. I am very interested in recharging the DI resin.

I have two 1-gallon ziplock bags full of used resin, and still haven't made the time to try and recharge it myself. I'd really like to give it a go. Why don't you come over and we can do the project together. You do it and I'll photograph it. We can co-author the article.

I read that, I still don't practice your process though, I'm sorta wanting my DI to go quickly because I want to accumulate enough to recharge the resin. Maybe I can do a write up with lots of pictures..... but that's still a couple years down the road.

That is a special controller as Detane pointed out. I can get that for my customers if they want it, as I checked into it back in September. It does that auto-back flush for 15 seconds each time it turns on to avoid TDS creep. I wrote an article about TDS creep a few months ago. Here's the link with the video I shot.
