So are there 2 overflows for this setup...one to each sock? What is the tower used for then?
  2. melev's Avatar
I was actually thinking about that during my trip to the airport at 3:30am. heh

I must have updated a totally different blog. It didn't make it. A few frags were cut off of it, just for the sake of doing so.

That little one by Avast Marine is quite the bargain, and would probably be fine for your 90g. Let us know how you like it.

Good, glad you got it back! It is definitely better to give up a little sleep and get it back than spend the whole night sleepless (like I would) and beating yourself up for leaving it behind.

I'm happy to report I got it back.

I decided not to leave things to chance and drove up to the airport to somehow gain access to that plane before it took off for its next destination. AA staff were coming in just after 4 a.m. and the second one I spoke with went over to the gate where we deplaned, walked on board and found it exactly as described, in the seat pocket of 14A. With great joy, I headed home with my netbook in hand. I lost some time, sleep, gas and surely got a couple of additional gray hairs, but had I gone to sleep it wouldn't have turned out as well, I'm sure.

It's good to see them holding up. Only a matter of time till they all regain their former glory in the 400. Also, I was wondering what type of skimmer you would reccomend for a 90 gallon tank. I'm looking for one that will be able to use the Avast Marine Works swabbie. Thanks for your time.

nice to see an update and glad ur tort is hanging in there, i know how hard it was to get one workin for ya! cant wait to see that beast of a tank in your house finally, gonna be exciting!

The plumbing is set up so that 75% of the water drains into the skimmer section and 25% into the refugium. The pipe is set up to drain in the corner of the refugium that is catty-corner to the teeth area, with the fitting half-exposed and half-submerged so that water tumbles out while air breathes out of quietly.

very nice set-up marc! please excuse my ignorance but how is the water being supplied to the refugium? is there another supply coming from the tank? if so, how do you keep the refugium flow nice & easy? thanks. Gerry

marc, how do your holders holdprobes? have you seen the new Eshopps magnetic probe holders? they use a 3/8 acrylic or 1/2 acrylic for a holder, and then they drill and tap for 1/4 thumb screws. that way you can run probes, or 1/4 tubing for dosers. but the thumb screws will allow you to adjust your probe height, or just slide the magnets up and down.

for you, youwont need the magnets, but the thumb screws for holding the probes is a sweet idea that you might look into.

i hope your customer posts some pictures of their tank adn the new sump in action!

Nice job Marc. I really like those sock holders. Have you given any thought to building removable overflow combs? I think it would be a nice touch, and to have an extra set, so your customer can swap combs.
