  1. Next Wave was fun and I came home with a new item

    After many months of planning, Next Wave was another good show. Attendees made it a point to hear each of the four speakers throughout the day on May 3, 2014.   2. Stuff you don't see every day...

    Yesterday as I was cleaning the glass and specifically near the area where the sandbed meets the glass, I accidentally bumped this acropora with my elbow. I use a plastic room key card (like a credit card) to clean the harder spots in the tank, and sometimes my arm makes contact with a coral. I always recoil and hold my breath hoping I didn't damage a colony, but this broke was quick. I watched the branch fall slowly toward the sandbed, and felt disgusted with myself.   3. Day 157: Things are going pretty well

    One coral in my reef turned very pale. And oddly enough, that same exact species is in two other locations and did the exact same thing. It's very light, after shedding its zooxanthellae for whatever reason. I dont know why it did it, and I'll have to see if it survives.

    Also, a branch in a birdsnest colony in the back of the reef suddenly turned white, so I checked Alkalinity first and it was 8.5 dKH. Maybe the tongue coral got it and it wasn't a water quality situation. There ...

    I didn't post my pictures from the Blood Moon event two nights ago. This was shot with a 200mm lens.
