I float the bags for a while so fish in tank has plenty of time to "check-out" the new fish. And, new fish can check out the tank. Also gives the new fish time for temperature acclimation. Then I proceed with adding a little water to bag at a time, repeat this process for a while. Lastly, when I release the fish, I feed the tank. If new fish eat with the others that is usually a good sign.
Added a picture with the lid off per request.
How much of a difference does it make to feed the biopellet return back to the skimmer. I've read that it is a good idea but I haven't seen the residue buildup firsthand. I've heard vodka dosers complain about it from time to time. I dump my biopellet return right back in the sump before the main pump in my system which also feeds the skimmer. Should I expect to start seeing buildup after a few months?
Please take pics at each stage. Will you use an epoxy intended for corals or what else will hold up in salt water. My connection is in the sump so I don't need a seal.
I'm going to try to change out a metric part myself. My plan is to file the threads down a bit (not all the way off) then add a small amount of epoxy and push on a slip fitting so the epoxy forms to it's shape. Let it dry, and then fix the slip over it with silicone. I can't think of a place where that would be weak or leak. If it doesn't work the new part is only $30, so it won't be a major failure or anything. :-)
I tried this mod on my PSK-2500. Couldn't get anything to fit the threads. A 1" T with threads looks like the right thread. I can only assume they are metric so are cut differently. Any suggestions?
Those are acrylic rods that are acting as a barrier to keep an anemone off a nearby coral. It's temporary, since the anemone may change its mind again and pick a different spot to stretch and touch soon.
Cool idea Marc. Because I have more curiousity than a cat, what's the two long green straw looking things sticking down into the rockwork?
Great idea, I've just been doing the shock and awe here lately.
I love the box Marc. I had really good luck with adding after lights out, but I had a large water volume and didn't do it often enough to consider it "protocol".
I have had no luck adding single fish when I add a pair they make it in the display but a single last about 4 days and disappears. I have thought of using breeders nets for awhile but I like this idea marc. I got some extra acrylic left from a build I may have to try this out.
love the idea marc the box looks great! When u Quarantine do you just use water from your reef or do you mix new salt water? also still need help on my briopsis blog ( sorry for being a pest about it haha)
that is crazy!! 9 bags!! must be nice to be a bigwig!! lol cant wait to see more pics of the livestock in the tank, have to admit u take some of the best pics ive seen!
Kevin does a wonderful job up there in Rhinelander, WI with live aquaria but I have had problems with thier shipping department out of California. I know others who have too. I don’t know how a place can very so much from on facility to the next. But they have the best warranty.
kool stuff but they wont ship to canada
Just ordered a Christmas wrasse from there myself! for the 125
Very cool Marc. I love those kind of boxes, lol just like christmas morning feeling.
Well... what did you get? You referenced six purple firefish, and new angels, which I assume are the two dwarfs you already had in QT. Are the firefish the only fish in the order? I've ordered from both of Live Aquaria's facilities. I've had good luck with their fish both times, but the Diver's Den fish are clearly of better quality. They also do a great job of honoring their 14 day alive guarantee.
Cool Marc! Diver's Den is one of my favorites. I have an order coming on Saturday that I am Saturday that I super excited about.
Sorry to hear of your frustrations. Even the most seasoned hobbiest have their down days. Just keep being patient and consistent, and everything will turn around. I feel your pain, my tank looks worse now than it did a year ago. Sometimes you have to take a few steps back before you can take more steps forward. This hobby is like marriage, there will be ups and there will be downs. You have an amazing tank, so you must be doing something right! You just have to keep on keeping on.
