  1. Monday's Mandarin

The Psychedelic Mandarin is one of my favorite fish. I became enamoured with one early on when I got into reefkeeping, and kept one successfully in my 29g even when others pointed out that it wasn't an ideal situation. My 29g was full of liverock, and I fed the tank often. It seemed quite content, and didn't appear to be emaciated. Basically I was the exception to the rule, and while "melev might be able to do it" it wasn't recommended for small tanks.

  3. Stuff you don't see every day...

Yesterday as I was cleaning the glass and specifically near the area where the sandbed meets the glass, I accidentally bumped this acropora with my elbow. I use a plastic room key card (like a credit card) to clean the harder spots in the tank, and sometimes my arm makes contact with a coral. I always recoil and hold my breath hoping I didn't damage a colony, but this broke was quick. I watched the branch fall slowly toward the sandbed, and felt disgusted with myself. For the time being, the ...

  4. Day 157: Things are going pretty well

One coral in my reef turned very pale. And oddly enough, that same exact species is in two other locations and did the exact same thing. It's very light, after shedding its zooxanthellae for whatever reason. I dont know why it did it, and I'll have to see if it survives.

Also, a branch in a birdsnest colony in the back of the reef suddenly turned white, so I checked Alkalinity first and it was 8.5 dKH. Maybe the tongue coral got it and it wasn't a water quality situation. There ...

  5. April FTSs, and more

For April, it's time for a new batch of pictures. No Macros this time since it's been a while since I showed the reef from a normal perspective. Here are a collection of images of the 400g and the 60g today. I even threw in the frag tank to complete the set.

I really like this angle of the two tanks.
