I dosed the day after I restarted the skimmer and had carbon running for 24 hours first. That way the new dose wouldn't be exported too quickly. Also I dosed directly into the flow of the return penductor to make sure it got into the reef itself.

    Looking forward to it.

Great, solid advice Marc. Thank you. I will start a new thread or write it on my tank thread when I start running the reactor in a few weeks.

I was wondering if after the chemical treatment for the cyano you chose to dose to restart the good bacteria? I tried equal doses of bioptim and biodigest without a chemical treatment but there was no effect on the cyano.

I'll post up some pictures very soon. I've been using it every couple of days to stop these pesky anemones from increasing in number. They retract fast now, it's like they know what I'm doing.

I decided to go with a large model due to it currently being in stock and for when I upgrade in the future. I chose AquaMaxx in large part due to your great review of its performance. This will be my first time carbon dosing, and I will undoubtedly being seeking advise and asking questions along the way (I will probably start a new thread here about it on RA). Any advice or tips before I begin, using this model of biopellet reactor inparticular? I plan to follow your review on the reactor as an instruction guide. Thanks and keep the posts coming! Ecobak, Biospheres, Vertex are all good brands. I've used all three. Everyone continues to post that you need to only put 25-50% of the pellets in the reactor to get it going, but I've always just filled it up. The first time I used them, I put 2-liters on the 400g. Then when I ran out completely in 2012 (just had about a dozen bouncing around in an empty reactor), I filled it up completely again. And last week, I filled it up all the way when it was done to a few inches worth.

Be sure to soak the pellets in tank water for 24 hours prior to use. This helps them not clump nor float. Every few hours, I stirred the pellets with a spoon. I had them in plain sight in front of the tank, so I just did it when I walked by, not like clockwork or anything.

Be sure you are dosing bacteria regularly, be it Prodibio, Zeovit, or Microbacter 7.

I use the Pro-sized vials of Bioptim and Biodigest. Because of the size of my system, I'm using two Pro vials of each. The Iodi+ and Stronti+ I only have smaller vials, so I use 9 vials of each (for 450g of water volume). This is done every 15 days.

I will have to say I look forward to your blog entries. Keep us informed on how the RedCyano RX works. I have used Chemi-Clean in the past and I am thinking of using it once again. Cyano has a big foothold in my tank despite trying all sorts of measures.

I am thinking of starting to run some GFO with my Biopellets to see if that helps, as a last stand before I give in.

I have the same problem with my D5100. Sometimes I can get it to set using a piece of thin paper taped to the tank with a black X on it. Not always though. So now I just set WB to "Daylight" and live with the blue color cast, or cheat and use my speedlight above or to the side of the tank to add some white light. If there isn't any red or green light to start with, you can't add them in post.

Nice shots Marc. That 105mm Macro lens is at the top my wish list at B&H.
