  1. Day 270: My reef at nine months old

    My reef turns nine months old today and some thoughts about the past few weeks.




    To start off, I'd like to showcase some of the newest additions.

    Here's the Branching Tubastrea, usually called a black suncoral. You can see the tissue is dark green. Each night the polyps come out so I can spot feed them.

  3. Onyx Perculas

    These little clownfish make me smile each time I walk past the frag tank. Their markings are striking under the 14,000K LED lighting. The smaller male is by far the prettier of the two, probably because the white stripe isn't broken. I know these were from a batch that Paul had, but I don't know more about their history.

  4. Three macro shots

    Here is one of the Ricordea I brought home from Florida a few months ago. It's in a terrible spot for photography, but nice to see in person.



    The Lawnmower Blenny was parked in the Nepthea, watching me.



    The Cyphastrea is almost always open.

    Take a look at that coral on the right. It is a softy leather called a Nepthea. I wanted it to grab onto the "elephant's tooth" rock that I placed in the reef initially. It didn't grab on the first time, ...
