Tank Entry

  1. Two days later, I saw life...

The tank was set up with rock and sand for a week, then we drained it down to nothing, moved all the sand, installed a support system with acrylic rod (the entry will be posted in full detail very soon), refilled the tank, fixed the sand, added the rock, adding eight 10 lbs trays of Tropic Eden Live Sand and by Sunday night I had the livestock in the tank. From Sunday night to Tuesday night (two days), life appeared on the glass before my eyes. I was working the cleaning magnet across the front ...

  2. Livestock transferred into the 400g

Seven months and one day later, the livestock was moved at last. Well, what's left of it anyway.

I'll be sharing more images later, including what Wes and I did for 12 hours on Saturday night / Sunday early morning.

Pictures from tonight. All the lights are installed above the tank.

Here's a quick shot from the end that I can view from the kitchen / dining area.

  4. Rockscaping and saltwater at last!

With everything done, it was time to move the bonded rock into the display. I had a sinking feeling it wouldn't hold together, but wanted to will it with Jedi Might to stay strong. Using a large piece of 3/8" thick scrap acrylic, we hoped we could slide parts of the structure onto it and lift this into the tank. Unfortunately, the concrete material didn't hold strong, and as you might imagine at 2 a.m. the expletives were flying. All that hard work on Ryan's part was being undone, mostly because ...

  5. Aquascaping and Sumpology

With all the plumbing completed on Friday night, Wes and Ryan both offered to come over Saturday evening to help with the rockwork. I've had the majority of the live rock (LR) in a barrel for the past six months, tied into the livestock system via a feed from the manifold. Some yellow sponge has been growing nicely over that time.

When it comes to LR, I prefer to never expose it to air more than a few minutes. ...
