Tank Entry

This has been a crazy week with my water parameters taking a hit due to the tank breakdown. The Alkalinity spiked up to 15 dKH, but I turned off the calcium reactor 5 days ago. Water temperatures have risen higher than I prefer, but I've got that normalized as well. The LR (live rock) in the barrel has been circulating and skimmed, and I've been checking it for Ammonia and Nitrite, but it never cycled. The sponges never started dying off, fortunately. I have a sketch drawn up, and I'll attach it now. It may vary slightly for strength as Marineland wants to have their CAD guy run his structural tests, but this is the basic plan. The display tank would be 84" x 36" x 30" - roughly 400g. Starphire glass with black silicone. The back wall where the overflow is will either be smoked glass or painted black, or I'll use window tint.

My angled tank is turning three next month. And I've been contemplating a new tank in that spot. I came up with an idea today, which I think will be amazing. Hopefully I can build it in the next couple of weeks. I know you guys want all the details, but I'd prefer to reveal it once completed. It'll be a little bit bigger, it'll have a nifty way of looking at it, and it'll incorporate a Vortech MP10 internally. I'm stoked!

The coral is showing improvement. I've been putting hermits in this coral by hand, placing them where I need them once a week for the past three weeks. Here's a picture from today.



The entire reef looks better. And something interesting has happened to my LPS. Over the past 6 months or so, I've seen the random polyp (or head) close down for a few days and die. I couldn't find the cause and felt it ...

She's really taking up a lot of space lately. I may have to pull some LR out of the tank. This was taken earlier in the day before she engorged herself. It's a pretty creature, but it leaves little room for other stuff. The Capricornis to the left is almost a goner due to her sting.
