  1. Actinic pictures from the Frag Tank

When my tanks are being blasted with blue, I do enjoy seeing the corals fluoresce. I tried to get a few pictures of the frags that are growing into little colonies as they wait for their bigger home. Super blue, filtered back with Photoshop.

This acan colony was almost completely destroyed by pest anemones, but I saw some life and moved it into the frag tank. Look at the size of that one polyp. There's more DNA popping out nearby as well as behind it, so I have about four polyps ...

  2. January pictures

I took a few pictures today to share.

Acropora sp - one of the only acros to make it to the 215g

The blue tort has nice new growth, but the main body doesn't look as nice as it should. I need to take a powerhead to it to see if any pests come off.

Birdsnest coral - the valonia in there is tough to pull out.

  3. Marineland's Customer Service

Everyone has been asking me about the newly repaired tank, if it has been set up, when am I going to reveal the latest aquascaping, etc. The tank is empty, just as it arrived.

After waiting patiently for months for the rebuilt tank to arrive, I was very excited when I got notification that it was going to deliver soon. I'd already lined up a bunch of helpers to bring it inside, and the crate arrived on schedule in perfect condition. Saturday morning, before all the lifters arrived, ...

  4. Hawaii - Sand Sculpture for the holidays

For the last day of the year, I better get in this holiday related sand sculpture I saw at one hotel on O'ahu. It was impressive how this guy (I didn't see any other minions) was able to build this from 20 tons of sand.

  5. Saving a Puffer Fish with surgery

So this story really touched my heart when it broke recently on Facebook. Brian Bunne Broughten of Advanced Aquarium Service in Minnesota had a client whose pet "Bubba" needed emergency care. The fish had ingested a clam, and the shell was trapped within Bubba's digestive system intact and still hinged. The fish grew lethargic, stopped eating and also no longer expel waste for too long.

The first step was to get the fish x-rayed to see what was going on.
