  1. Toilet Wars

For the past month, my toilet has been driving me nuts. I replaced the refill mechanism, but once it was full, over the next 5 to 10 minutes it would drain about 1.5" of water, and refill. The only solution to not wasting water was to shut off the water line going to the toilet. Then when it was time to use it again, open the valve, wait for it to fill up, and proceed - then close it down again. It was very very annoying.

I bought a new flapper from Home Depot, but that didn't ...

  2. Update on the Acro with algae

The coral is showing improvement. I've been putting hermits in this coral by hand, placing them where I need them once a week for the past three weeks. Here's a picture from today.

The entire reef looks better. And something interesting has happened to my LPS. Over the past 6 months or so, I've seen the random polyp (or head) close down for a few days and die. I couldn't find the cause and felt it ...

  3. What does Phosphate look like?

The title is just a tad misleading, but I thought I'd show you what it looks like to me.

Using a Salifert PO4 test kit, I measure the water from my reef tank for Phosphate. The ideal reading is 0 to .03ppm (yes, it should be super low). For the past 23 months, I've been dosing vodka daily to maintain lower nitrates, and it helps keep phosphate from rising but doesn't omit them like it does for others. ...

  5. Pictures from today

I took some pictures today to share with you. Then this evening, I decided to get wet and work on my tank. A few corals have been moved, as many Majanos as I could find were nuked, and some algae was pruned out. In the process, some SPS were broken, removed, or relocated. As you probably understand, I won't know for a few days if I like the changes but it needed doing. There are no pictures of the changes yet because I worked until I was down to LED Moonlighting for the last few adjustments. ...
