  1. As the equipment ages, it must be replaced

My reef is coming up on 6 years old this August, and some of the gear is definitely showing signs of wear. As I look at various items, I know they have to be replaced with new components which of course cost more money. Knowing that, I drag my feet because I like to eat too.

As you know, this week I had to swap out my return pump. Essentially, that was free. Here are the details if you missed it:

  2. 10 days shy of 5 years, I have to announce a retirement...

  4. Working on my 280g this week

Two nights ago, I was tinkering in my reef a little, as the cyano on the substrate was getting too close to some livestock. I didn't do much more than use a long handled scraper to peel the cyano mat away from some stuff. However, the next day the prettier of my two maximas was dead - the shell was completely empty.

One of the BTAs lives under my shelving Acropora plana, and occasionally gets snagged on some of the dead branches. I've intentionally left them in place ...

  5. CoralRx Dip

My LFS has been talking about this product for the past few months, and while attending MAX, they were giving away free samples of their product. I need to double check, but I think I was told the single tube would treat one gallon of saltwater. I brought home several of their samplers.
