  1. The light rack project

Mark another stage off my list of things to do. The light rack has been assembled and suspended over the tank. I'm going to do a little touch up here and there to make sure no exposed metal will corrode from the salty environment, but I'll have to buy some model paint to do so. Here's how it went...

The first thing I had to do was warm up the garage. It's been pretty cold recently, and I didn't want to work in 35F if I could avoid it. So I fired up this heater and let it warm up ...

  2. Water test today

No, not the one you were thinking of. This was to double check my efforts from yesterday. I had to pour water on the new concrete as this helps strengthen it as it cures. I wanted to see where it might flow, and also determine what still needs to be done. This was less than 2 quarts of water poured out.

  4. A few iphone pictures from some current efforts

The DIY continues unabated. I decided to get the garage side of the walls sheetrocked with 5/8" material (fire grade). That way I could soon use those walls to better use, hanging tools of them or simply using them to lean stuff against. The poofy insulation bats were annoying, and not helping keep the temperature in my house as well as it should.

It took a couple of hours one afternoon to get the pieces cut and installed.

  5. Sheetrock stuff completed

I started sheetrocking the fishroom a few weeks ago. That was accomplished and the insulation was installed on the garage side of the walls. Plastic edging was applied to all the corners to keep them clean, tidy and strong.
