  1. Ecotech's ReefLink arrived

Yesterday I got my shipment from Ecotech Marine. It included the new ReefLink device that was on display at MACNA two months ago. This connects to your home (or business) network to communicate with the Radion LED fixtures and in the future, wireless Vortech pumps.

Since I'm a beta tester, I'll be providing feedback about how it works to Ecotech. Here are some teaser pictures.

  2. The 400g is officially running (Blog #500!)

Last weekend, I spent two days moving livestock and rock from the 215g into the 400g and the 60g tanks, both which were ready and waiting.

As I'd discussed previously, my original plan was to tie all three tanks together into the common sump so the water would be shared and all parameters would match. The 60g was plumbed into the sump already, but the 400g was running independently, not quite full enough to drain. It had over 300g of saltwater in it, along with sand and rock and ...
  3. Anemones Spawning - the rare kind of spawning

Saturday and Sunday, I moved the livestock and rock from the temporary tank to the new ones. After mostly everything was cleaned up, the lights were out and I was quietly at my computer, I spotted the 60g aquarium looked cloudy from afar. Since the water was crystal clear, I was very surprised. With a flashlight, I quickly found that my anemones were spawning - releasing sperm into the water. This happens often enough, but what got me super excited was seeing eggs blasting around in the tank. ...

  4. Hanging the Radion fixture

With the 60g on the stand, leveled and positioned near the wall - I left a small gap behind the tank to avoid salt-creep damage to the sheetrock - I needed to determine where to hang the Radion LED fixture over the tank. Using a 4' level, I placed it across the tank and set the light fixture on top. This permitted measuring the fixture from all four sides to get it centered. Hence, I was able to ascertain the distance from the rear wall and the right wall precisely for the hanging kit.

  5. Silicone the overflow into the 60g cube and plumbed

In a previous blog ( link ) I explained how I was securing the internal overflow to the base of the AGE tank. Well, even though it might have worked perfectly, my paranoia gene was flaring up and I kept thinking about how a leak from the base of the aquarium would require a full breakdown to correct the problem. Rather than just hoping for the best, I bought a tube of Aquarium-Safe silicone at Home Depot and applied it to the base of the box and reinstalled it.
