  1. Update - 58g, 9 months and counting

    Home from work today; with a hot cup of bean as my muse, I'm inspired to post an update.

    I guess I should start by talking about some of the teething problems I've had with this tank. My intention was to create an automated system, making me responsible for only feedings and water changes. I’m very happy with the way everything has turned out. My interest and energy for the hobby is as strong as it ever was. This is my second tank and is moving towards its first full year of operation.

  2. Update - my new 58g, 5 weeks old

    Here we go, time for a 5 week update on my new setup. I transferred my old setup to this tank in early May. The set up blog is here. Everything is starting to settle in. The corals are looking much happier and the sps are continuing to colour up. At this point, as was with my 40g, I am having decent luck keeping healthy SPS frags coloured up, it's just that the brown frags I purchased are taking a bit of time.   3. Getting ready for my big upgrade!

    I picked up my new tank today, an Oceanic 58g (36x18x21). It will sit on a freshly built stand. I will be transferring all of the equipment from my current tank and will be picking up a few goodies this week. I am waiting for the pin-wheel on my Euro-reef RS-80 to come back from Reef Dynamics on warranty.

    I made the mistake of starting my first tank with crushed coral. I will be using 40 lbs. of Seaflor special grade sand for the new tank. The 40 breeder I have set up now is using ...
