I got to check out the newest Kessil LED last week, which will be on display at MACNA next weekend. I was impressed by the look it provided.

  2. 42 Gallon Hex build

The first 3 photo's are of a completed side panel for the stand. A panel was added to the back of the doors to help protect the raised panel door from water and salt spray. These panels have the same rubber coating that is on the stand and they are painted white. The side doors are all the same except for the direction the door swings. There are 2 side panels on each side. There is also 2 covers to protect the hinge assembly when the door is closed attached to the side panel. When I had this running ...

  3. Bus Tour - it's really fun!

For the third year in a row, our club got a chartered air-conditioned bus and spent the day visiting a few LFS (Local Fish Store) that are club sponsors. We visited five stores that day, and I ended up with more fish food and a couple of new corals. With 50+ of us shopping that day, I'd estimate that we spent about $7500 supporting the local economy - which is a great thing for those stores. And the best part, I remembered to film it.

  4. 42 Gallon Hex build

In case some of you are intrested in how I made the outer frames I posted some photos of the devices used. These were made from scrap wood and MDF. I made 2 templates out of MDF. I also made a frame out of wood to help in placing the templates down onto the part that needs the 1/4" pattern cut into it. The top part in the first photo is a section of wood that needs the pattern cut into it. The two parts at the bottom are the actual templates. In the second photo the section has been placed ...

  5. Alkalinity Swing

I recently had an alkalinity swing creep up on my reef. Normally I like to keep the tank around 8 dKH, and yesterday I noticed the duncans in my frag tank (part of the same system) were closed up. One bad habit I've developed over the years is to watch the corals for indication of problems instead of water tests each Saturday like I used to perform. I need to get better about that. I did a quick check with my Elos Alkalinity test kit and was shocked when it hit 21 dKH. So I tested again, and ...
