  1. Tank Update

It has been over a month now since I added the three Fish. They are still alive and seem healthy. I have lost 5 of the snails now. All are the margarita snails. I guess those are not for my tank. All others seem fine. I still have some diatoms popping up. The nitrates are still high. They have been at around 30 for weeks. They don't seem to budge. The phosphate reading has gone down to a reading of 0 for weeks now. I would guess it is being used up as fast as it is added. Not much else to tell I ...

  2. 400g Install from the Summer of 2013

This blog is long overdue. I was reading a blog on here about a dream tank and figured I would show mine. I'm sure everyone remembers Marc's (Melev) leaky Marineland custom 400g tank... Well, I am the lucky guy who picked it up for a good deal! I had a 100g setup for almost 7 years and I parted it out when I got a house back in 2010. After being house poor for a few years, I got that saltwater itch again and decided to just take a look at used tanks online. There was the tank of my dreams at ...

  3. Vectra pumps

Now that I have the Reeflink I'm really thinking about the Vectra pumps from EcoTech. I am using a pair of BlueLine pumps ,one as my return that also feeds a manifold for reactors and the fuge. The other I have throttled back as my skimmer feed. While the noise reduction would be nice it's not the biggest draw for me as my sump room is in the basement. What does interest me is the control ability and monitoring. I wonder if the L1 would be able to deliver the same or more than a BlueLine 70HD at ...

  4. Anemone spawning event, and Salinity Salt & Equipment update

Earlier today, I noticed all the anemones looked strange, somewhat supersized. This one is my oldest anemone, purchased back in 2003. See how the tentacles look more like candle flames? That's not what I normally see, so I knew something was up.

No pictures of the event yet, but I did want to post about this evening. As the lights over the 60g Anemone Cube began to fade and turn more and more blue, I noticed the tank was looking a little ...

  5. Day 791: 26 months update

Today marks 26 months since the 400g was started anew. While it isn't perfect and I have some pests to target, I took pictures and did water tests to see how things are. Yesterday, a number of DFWMAS members came out for a Photography Workshop so the tank was cleaned prior to their arrival. Today I just swiped the glass clean, waited a couple of hours and took a series of pictures with three different lenses (18-200mm, 50mm, and 105mm).
