  1. Custom Auto Top Off Reservoir

For years, I've used wrapping paper containers to hold 20g of RO/DI water for my reef's evaporated needs. With the new tank, I decided it would be sexier to put a custom-made acrylic vessel under the tank. I measured twice, opting to use every inch at my disposal, and proceeded to build it. The reservoir is 22" wide, 32.75" tall, and 15.5" deep. It has a small access door on the top to allow me to adjust the float valve when needed. It is made with 3/8" AcryLite GP.

    The purpose ...

  2. Concrete done, liner installed

I've been absent from the site to focus on my tank that is now ready for livestock. It's been a busy week, that's for sure. Last Sunday was my birthday, and I couldn't think of a better thing to do than stay home and work on my project. It probably seems like it is going on forever, but it reminds me of an experience a friend told me about a pilot for American Airlines that would come to a private hanger each weekend to work on installing wiring in his personal two-seater prop plane. He ran ...

  3. Making progress

Well making alittle progress I find im my own worst enemy when it comes to trying to make my mind up on things. Getting the area cleaned out was a major ordeal, boarder line episode of hoarders, years of packing away leftover construction supplies saving me some money but what a mess. Find myself moving things over and over again every time I go to do something, sure no-one else has this problem, so alot of old half done fix it up project hit the trash over the last 2 weeks and we will just ...

  4. New Tank Build - Coming Soon!

Just purchased a 150 Gal tank off Craig's List today. I'm picking it up Friday afternoon. The tank is 7' x 1.5' x 2', so same cross section as my current 65 Gal freshwater tank, but 4' longer! It comes with a pretty nice, very strong looking stand that is only 24" tall, this will work well since it will located along a short wall giving me close to 2 feet above for lighting. And also making for easy maintenance and viewing from couch height. This will be long, slow build as I have to make some ...

  5. Quarantine Tank - 16 Gal. Bow Front - Cycling and Salt Question

    Hello All,

My weekend project was to build a Quarantine Tank and start it cycling. I built the cabinet from scratch wood leftovers and the tank used to be a red ear slider Turtle tank. All in all I'm impressed that it's straight and level... lol.

Now, I've read a lot about the various ways to cycle a tank and was wondering if anyone has ever tried the dead shrimp into the tank as a biological medium to start the cycle on its way?

And what is the relationship ...
