  1. Filter socks or no filter socks???

Are filter socks worth having in a sump to catch what comes out of the drain line? My sump is running with a bio pellet reactor, reef octopus skimmer, phosban reactor, Refugium with LR, deep sand bed and cheato. Should I keep using the filter sock or run without it? Anyone with thought, I would like to hear them...
  2. Typhoon Time

Today I decided to have a typhoon in my reef. I do this sometimes twice a year and IMO it is the main secret as to what has kept my tank going so long.
I run a reverse undergravel filter like almost everyone on here! No? Oh I thought everyone did. In any case, this is what I do to keep the tank going. As you can see I have two diatom filters running at the same time. I could do it with one but it takes twice as long. A diatom filter removes anything smaller than a micron which is much ...

  3. My new main pump!!

My newest purchase for my reef tank was a new main circulation pump. The Rio Hyper Flow 32 was on its last legs. Surprising as it may, this pump last 7 years with very minimal maintenance. It finally got to the point when I would turn off the pump for feedings, I prayed it would turn on again. So I decided a replacement was necessary.

Now mind you, I am a cheap or rather as I call it "frugal" with my money. I wanted the pump to be energy efficient, yet powerful enough to meet ...

  5. Actinic pictures from the Frag Tank

When my tanks are being blasted with blue, I do enjoy seeing the corals fluoresce. I tried to get a few pictures of the frags that are growing into little colonies as they wait for their bigger home. Super blue, filtered back with Photoshop.

This acan colony was almost completely destroyed by pest anemones, but I saw some life and moved it into the frag tank. Look at the size of that one polyp. There's more DNA popping out nearby as well as behind it, so I have about four polyps ...
