I just realized by making successive blog posts that I am monopolizing the "Recent Post" section on the right side of the home page, I apologize and promise this is my last blog entry for a while. The algae bloom came out in full force a few weeks ago, but is now mostly gone. I actually grabbed several pieces of the fast growing macro lettuce algae and tossed it in the refugium. It is growing well and I plan on putting a few pieces in the display tank from time to time to ...

A couple weeks ago my father-in-law and I (he had the skills and tools, I had the vision and plan) tackled making a sump/refugium out of 1/4" acrylic. Following a couple online sources, including Melev's acrylic guide, we came out with a winner (my father-in-law still can't believe that we succeeded without any leaks). Overall it is 27"long, 18.5" wide and 14.5" tall. It is split lengthwise with the left being the sump with skimmer and return pump and the right ...

I'm getting ready to upgrade my tank from a 75 gallon to a 140 with a 40 gallon sump. I need to upgrade my skimmer and had considered building the CS1 from Avast. It's rated for up to 200 gallons and comes with a sicce PSK 2500 pump with avast modded volute. My intention for the tank is to concentrate on SPS and LPS corals. Any input would be helpful.
