  1. Internal vs. External Return Pumps & Calcium Reactor vs. 2-part dosing

    Hi Folks,

Just wondering what people think about internal vs. external return pumps (say, for a 200G system). Anyone have any advice? From what I gather, external pumps are more expensive to start with, but have a longer lifespan and don't add heat to the system. Does the sump have to be drilled in order to use an external sump or can u just use pvc pipes to go up and over the sump wall? I guess doing so would affect the pump pressure/performance, right?

    Also, do most ...

  2. New Reef Tank

Let me introduce myself and my family. We live in Santa Barbara, CA, and our family includes myself and girlfriend, as well as my 2 children, my son is 9 and my daughter is 3. Although we are renting our home, we rent from family, so we should be okay to make some of the modifications and cabinetry that we are planning, as long as we are able to repair and replace, if we ever decide to move…..

  3. Raise Your Hand If You Have A Lee Mar Tank!

Just out of curiosity, who here has a tank made by Lee Mar? Any long term or short term comments and critiques? I've had mine going for a couple months and I have to say I love it! The overall build quality and craftsmanship is awesome. The worst part for me was that they weren't very good at giving me a very accurate completion date. I ended up getting it a week or two after they said they would have it done, and I have to say waiting out those final days SUCKED! Not that it matters now that mine ...

  4. Maroun 340G Tank build Thread

Finally I'm starting a long waited upgrade.

Would like to begin by thanking my wife and family for the great support, in tolerating my hobby and especially for maintaining the tank while I’m on frequent travel.
A special thanks to a group of local reefers here, that already helped a lot and will for sure contribute in decisions and all aspects of the coming build.
A big thanks goes to Marc who was a great help on my last 150 Build and who provided lots of effort in a ...

Okay, from that pic, the piping on left is the drain. All the fittings on the drain need to be tefloned, clamped and glued? And, on the right is intake from the sump. Pump on bootom right of pic. Does all this need to be clamped, teflon and or glued?
