  1. 150 G breakdown.

Couple of weeks ago it was time to break down the 150G in my parents place and move the fish and some of the rocks to my sump...
Was shocked to see the amount of detritus my sand and rocks trapped despite 50x tank volume flow.
Another shock was to not find a single bristleworm or critter in my DSB. Could this be the cause of my nitrates struggle lately? tank was only moved (sand cleaned 1.5 years ago)
Found 1 10 inches long Eunicid (sp?) worm in a big rock which could explain ...

  3. Kenya Tree Doomed?

I've had this coral for about 3 months and it was doing great. I fragged a piece off and it was doing good in my tank too. In the lastfew days I've noticed that it started to slump over and it's stopped opening up. This morning I found it like this. I tested my water and everything is fine; pH is within range, ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0, nitrate close to none, and phosphate is 0. The salinity is also within range though I've never really had problems with that. There is some discoloration happening ...
  4. A change in biopellets usage

On February 6th of this year, I started running 2 liters of Vertex biopellets in my system, and over that 7.5 month period I was able to maintain zero nitrate and zero phosphate. Granted, my system has a DSB, live rock, a skimmer and a refugium, but so did my 280g reef. I've not had to dose Phosphate Control nor use GFO once with the new tank. And no vodka dosing either. I've only done a handful of water changes in that time. Maybe 600g, possibly.

Two weeks ago, I hooked up a ...

  5. September 7th-14th: LED fixture online and working.

Finally, after almost a year between planning, prototyping, building and coding, my DIY LED fixture came to life. On Sept 6th the woodworking shop, LD Marcenaria delivered the new hood (they are very good, super recommend them to anyone living in São Paulo). It looked good, had dimensions according to the Google Sketch I had drawn, seems strong, etc.

Installation was way longer than just swapping the old hood for the new one because I had to redo the Aluminum structure of the ...
