  1. Ecotech's ReefLink arrived

Yesterday I got my shipment from Ecotech Marine. It included the new ReefLink device that was on display at MACNA two months ago. This connects to your home (or business) network to communicate with the Radion LED fixtures and in the future, wireless Vortech pumps.

Since I'm a beta tester, I'll be providing feedback about how it works to Ecotech. Here are some teaser pictures.

  2. LPS not doing so well

I purchased a nice Aussie platygyra which i suspect may actually be a Goniastrea I picked up about a year and a half ago. At about 6 months On the very top however the skeleton is taking on a bit of a brown or charred color.

  3. New critter in substrate, apparently a Chiton, safe

Today I noticed a different form in the substrate, one I'd never seen before. The tank is 4 years old, so that was quite a surprise. I must have imported himwith the rocks and creatures I added on 9/Oct .

I recalled seeing something similar in shape in "What Invertebrates?: A Buyer's Guide for Marine Aquariums", which is a simple book but good enough for basic aquarists like me. The thing that looks like the picture is a Chiton, which the book says is safe. Looks like ...

  4. Dosing pump hose slipped out, KH mess in cabinet, fix

This happened three weeks ago, but I thought it important to blog so others doing Balling out there might watch out for similar situations.

The thin hose that connects into my peristaltic doing pump's flexible tubing slipped out of it, the KH hose to be exact, and as a result KH liquid was squirted into the cabinet where it sits...

Actually, it happened twice. The first time I caught it some 8 to 10 hours after it slipped. Damage/mess was minimal. The second time, well, ...

  5. The 400g is officially running (Blog #500!)

Last weekend, I spent two days moving livestock and rock from the 215g into the 400g and the 60g tanks, both which were ready and waiting.

As I'd discussed previously, my original plan was to tie all three tanks together into the common sump so the water would be shared and all parameters would match. The 60g was plumbed into the sump already, but the 400g was running independently, not quite full enough to drain. It had over 300g of saltwater in it, along with sand and rock and ...
