  1. Update - 58g, 9 months and counting

Home from work today; with a hot cup of bean as my muse, I'm inspired to post an update.

I guess I should start by talking about some of the teething problems I've had with this tank. My intention was to create an automated system, making me responsible for only feedings and water changes. I’m very happy with the way everything has turned out. My interest and energy for the hobby is as strong as it ever was. This is my second tank and is moving towards its first full year of operation.

  2. Setting up my new Bubble Magus BMT-01 doser!

This weekend was crazy with spring league hockey and golf so this is my first chance to post my first experience with my new doser. The three pumps will eventually be used to dose alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium. For now, it'll be just the big two.

Installation - I decided to mount the unit above the reservoirs. This was done using two L brackets used for holding up shelves. I found these for a few dollars at the hardware store. The unit is 9 1/4 inches long and sits well with no ...

  3. Update - my new 58g, 5 weeks old

Here we go, time for a 5 week update on my new setup. I transferred my old setup to this tank in early May. The set up blog is here. Everything is starting to settle in. The corals are looking much happier and the sps are continuing to colour up. At this point, as was with my 40g, I am having decent luck keeping healthy SPS frags coloured up, it's just that the brown frags I purchased are taking a bit of time. But with 5 weeks under the new set up, corals I thought were down and out are turning ...

  4. Unboxing my new Bubble Magus BMT-01 doser!

I found a local shop which carries Bubble Magus products and managed to snag one of the new Bubble Magus 3 pump dosing units. I don't have experience with any of the Bubble Magus products, but the products look attractive enough. After a bit of reading I got the opinion that the company has been successful in providing reliable mid-range equipment at a lower cost point.

With my new tank up settling in after being transferred in early May, I began manually dosing DIY two-part. I love ...

  5. Finally, my new 58 gallon set up

My new set up has finally become a reality. My first tank was a 40 breeder with DIY overflow, stand, and sump. This first tank was running for just a few days short of a year. I posted a blog on it here. I guess I would call my experience with this tank a success. A few hiccups here and there, but no major crashes or deaths. When it came time to move apartments I figured the easiest way to move the tank would be to start with a new tank. Then, I could simply transfer the contents of my old tank ...
