  1. How a small change can affect your whole reef system in a big way

Recently, Ive started making changes to my reef to make it more energy efficient. I made the choice to remove my CL system and use powerheads. I opened up my aquascaping and thinned out some large acroporas to get away with less over all flow, and most recently I changed the lighting schedule on my MH's to help reduce the heat generated by three 400 watters over a seven hour period.
For years Ive ran my VHO's for 13 hours and my MH's for seven and have had great results. I have always had ...

  2. A pair of Vortech MP40s vs. a pair of Tunze 6105s

I did a search today and every comparison or poll I could find was from early "09". I'd like to get a more recent opinion from my peers regarding the two.

For comparison, Im going to use two of each for a six foot tank.

    First, cost
    Vortech MP40s $840
Tunze 6105s with the new 7096 multi controller $813

    Flow
    Vortech's 3200 each = 6400GPH
    Tunze's 3434 each = 6868GPH

    Electricity consumption / full speed

  3. New look

Ive been toying with the idea of reaquascaping 2/3rds of my tank for about six months now. I finally did it in the first stages of becoming more electrically ecofriendly.
The first step is to take out some of my less desirable acros and make more swim room for my three tangs.
The tangs are very energetic tonight swimming around agressively exploring all of the new nooks and crannies along with swimming the full length of the tank.
The next step will be to replace my CL with some ...

  4. Three days with no lights

To Kill the cyano Ive been fighting with all year. Its causing me a huge amount of stress worrying for my corals. My Bubble master 250 has pulled a full cup of pink skimmate every 12 hours on day two. I wonder if I can keep up today.

I have a 10% WC ready to go. I think Ill vacuum my sump and frag tank out just to help matters.

  5. An Easy DIY Aptasia Burner

First, I'll start off with a small disclaimer - I did not create this idea on my own. It was an idea I elaborated on to suit my own needs. This tool is something plugged into your household outlet and put into your fish tank with open ended wires allowing electricity to pass through the water. I cant be held responsible for any injury to yourself or your livestock. Use at your own risk. With that said. Ive used this on several large reef tanks including one of the premier Seattle area LFS's display ...
