  1. DIY Calcium questions

The plan: 22in tall 6in diameter single chamber reactor(can add second chamber later if wanted.) The reactor has to be leak proof or I will have to add onto my sump which does not have space for it. I will use a mag 7 or 9 pump for recirculation and come off of my return for feed water(may use a small power head.) It will have a probe port on the reactor and a bubble counter.

    Few questions:

what do I make the probe holder out of?

    I have seen other ...
  2. Does a smell in my barrel mean possible contaminates?

Hey all quick question. I am prepping my mixing station (very similar to what Drimo did) and although it is not stained I can still smell the soft drink syrup that was first in the barrel. Does this mean it still has the potential of releasing baddies into my reef tank?

PS i have already rinsed it a few times and also used some vinegar. I plan on getting a big jug of vinegar and rinsing it a few more times also. Thanks all

  4. Phosphate not good.... It's WAR !!!

The good news, got a new toy The Hanna Phosphate checker... The bad news, phosphates are .23 No wonder things don't seem to grow fast in my reef tank ... I admit that I don't vacume the sand bed with every water change. Tank is 4+ years old. So, I want to ATTACK this problem with vigor or vulgar or vodka When I gently rack my sand bed, it's big clouds, I'm in detritus hell ... I went out looking for lanthanum chloride type stuff and didn't buy anything yet. I did however, ...

  5. Nitrates Filter question

    Hi,
Experimenting with using Kent Nitrogen sponge in a reactor with some low flow for nitrate reduction.
What flow would you suggest for a start and how would you modify it as the filter matures?
I've read about denitrators and flow is in the order of drop per minute... would you think in a reactor setup I should be doing the same or should I have some low flow pump (50GPH?) directly connected?
what should I wait/Look for to modify my flow through it?
    Thanks ...
